Organized Criminal Network Behind Mahara Prison Incident – Minister Dr. Susil Ranasinghe

Recent incidents at the Mahara and Negombo Prisons were not isolated or spontaneous events but were carried out in an organized manner, Minister of Housing and Water Supply Dr. Susil Ranasinghe said.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the media during a visit to the Galenbindunuwewa area.

He stated that law enforcement authorities are continuing to take action against financial crimes, drug trafficking, fraud, corruption and individuals accused of abusing political power under the country’s existing legal framework.

Minister Ranasinghe said that the Government is currently taking various measures against organized criminal groups, drug trafficking networks and individuals accused of misusing political influence.

He alleged that certain groups were attempting to evade legal action by using propaganda campaigns and engaging in activities aimed at obstructing the Government’s efforts.

The Minister emphasized that the Government would not be deterred by such challenges and would continue taking the necessary measures to uphold the rule of law and move the country forward.

He further stated that a proper investigation would be conducted into the circumstances behind the disruptive incidents reported within the prison system and that strict legal action would be taken against those found responsible.
