The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Sri Lanka following a series of high-level discussions led by Laure Beaufils, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Director for South Asia and Afghanistan.
During her visit, Beaufils met with Members of Parliament, political representatives, civil society organisations, and UK businesses operating in Sri Lanka. The discussions focused on key priorities at the heart of the UK–Sri Lanka partnership, including expanding bilateral economic growth, creating new opportunities for trade and investment, supporting governance reforms, and advancing human rights and transitional justice.
The visit also highlighted Sri Lanka’s investment and business environment, with particular attention given to renewable energy opportunities and sustainable economic development. Both sides underscored their shared commitment to promoting long-term prosperity through stronger economic cooperation and investment.
The UK reiterated its support for Sri Lanka’s reform agenda and expressed its willingness to continue working closely with the country to foster inclusive growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and enhance economic resilience.
